PELOTAN REVIEWS
How do I use Pelotan?
How to apply
For best results apply to clean dry skin. Apply evenly and generously 15 minutes before you head outside, which will allow Pelotan to bind with the skin and form a protective barrier. When used correctly, one application is sufficient for all day protection giving you maximum comfort, however far you go. For additional protection, repeat with a second application.
How much should I apply?
The average adult needs between 30-40mls of product during each application to ensure sufficient coverage and effective protection. First time users and those with a pale complexion or sensitive skin are advised to re-apply Pelotan 15 minutes after initial application to ensure full coverage – listen to your skin.
How long should I stay in the sun?
Everyone is different and there are so many factors at play here including your location, skin type and time of the day. Where possible, avoid extended sun exposure when the sun is at its hottest around midday (perfect time for a coffee…)
A single application, if done correctly, will last up to 8 hours.
However, it is important to listen to your skin. Always be aware of the strength of the sun. Never exceed sun exposure for longer than your skin allows. If it's a long day, pack the Roll On for a mess-free top up.
Sun Facts
What do SPF levels mean?
The Sun Protection factor (SPF) gives an indication of the amount of protection sunscreen offers against UVB radiation. Many other factors will impact how long you can stay in the sun without burning, such as your skin type, eye and hair colour, where you are in the world, altitude and lots of other things.
After applying SPF 30, you are able to stay in the sun 30 times longer than you could without wearing sun protection. Be sure to wear the directed amount of sun protection (always more than you think, this should be around 30ml per application for an adult). Higher factors should not be used to increase your time in the sun.
A common misconception is that SPF 30 is twice as strong as SPF 15 and so on; this is not true. SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB radiation whilst SPF 30 blocks 97% and SPF 50 blocks 98%.
What are UVA and UVB rays?
The sun produces 2 different types of rays, long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB). Only UVB causes burning, but both types damage our skin, so good sunscreens should protect against both. UVB rays do not penetrate as deep into the skin as UVA rays but cause sunburn through over exposure. UVB rays also directly damage the DNA in the skin cells and in this way overstress the skin’s own repair mechanism.
UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and can cause premature aging and can cause malignant melanoma.
There are lots of different UVA measuring systems around the world. We use the European standard – look for the letters UVA inside a circle. This symbol means that a product meets the EU-recommended level of UVA protection. Pelotan is a broad spectrum sun protection product, meaning it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Should I apply Pelotan when it's not sunny?
Definitely – yes. When the weather is overcast, UV radiation levels are still at 80% of their normal levels. The temperature can also be deceiving as a breeze can make it feel a lot more cool than it is however this breeze will not affect the UV levels. Keep an eye on the UV index for your area to make sure you’re using protection when you need to.
FAQs
Will Pelotan stain my kit?
We know how annoying it is when some other sunscreens turn your favourite kit a sort of strange yellow. We designed Pelotan specifically not to mark clothing – but recommend allowing it to fully dry before putting on your favourite kit. Marginal gains, not terminal stains.
I have allergies or a skin disorder, can I use Pelotan?
Whilst Pelotan has been dermatologically tested, allergies can be very serious, and we minimise potential allergens where possible. If you have a skin disorder or allergy, consult a doctor before applying. Discontinue immediately if signs of irritation or rash appear. Ideally do a patch test 24 hours before first use.
Is Pelotan tested on animals and is it suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
Pelotan is never tested on animals – they’re usually dreadful athletes anyway. We’re also proud to be a company that doesn’t buy ingredients that have been tested on animals by other manufacturers either. You can buy Pelotan confident that your sun care is cruelty free.
Can I use Pelotan on my face?
Yes, Pelotan is suitable for the whole body and the face.
